The independent British designers Wales & Wales and their unique vision of wood furniture About
Since 1980 Rod and Alison Wales have gained a reputation for timeless, intelligent design emerging from a craft background without being confined by it. Their early work included numerous commissions for private and corporate clients — most of it produced by hand in the couple’s own East Sussex workshop. More recently Wales & Wales have become internationally known for their extraordinary street furniture. Developed for diverse urban environments, these designs succeed by continuing to reflect those qualities gained from Wales & Wales’ long history of ‘making’ and their signature sensitivity to materials.
Wales & Wales’ work, whether speculative or commissioned, is made to be used. Clients include private individuals, companies, institutions, churches, even government ministries.
Today, Wales & Wales furniture can be found in many important private collections as well as on permanent display in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.
Rod and Alison did more than allowing Meta to produce Glissade outside their own workshop. They shared with Meta their unique vision and priceless experience in contemporary cabinet making. As much as Meta was honoured of their trust, they felt "privileged (...) to have had their ideas realized and developed by some of the finest master artisans at work today".
